IT Weapons was born June 16th, 2000...Founded by Jason MacBean and Ted Garner. In just over a decade they have built one of Canada's leading IT consulting, private cloud, and managed services companies.
Jay and Ted first met working in the IT department at one of Canada’s largest aerospace companies. In the late nineties, the corporation committed to outsourcing the entire IT staff. Ted decided to leave and join a Markham-based technology reseller to kick start their new Professional Services department. Jason stayed on with the new outsourced IT firm and grew to become one of their top their technical analysts in Canada.
Frustrated by the IT industry's common practice of over-promising, under-delivering, and quick-buck product sales, Ted began dreaming of the ideal consulting company; a company committed to providing effective, no bullshit solutions rather than empty sales promises. Our founders re-united when Ted convinced Jason to join him at the Markham-based VAR as their new Chief Technical Architect.
Together they helped grow that professional services department into one of Canada's leading consulting groups; supporting a range of small, medium, and enterprise clients in the growing area of corporate data centre and network design. They still weren't satisfied. They had again grown fed up with the large corporate practice of focusing on product sales rather than objective consulting advice. They were tired of being alienated from their own hard work. In early 2000, Ted and Jason decided it was time to fill a need in the IT marketplace; to start a team founded on honest, business-centric technical expertise; no sales quotas and no commissions. The idea was simple: know your stuff, do a good job, act with integrity, and success will come. And it certainly did.
Jason and Ted began meeting every morning at 7am at their new ‘office’: a Dixie Road coffee shop in Mississauga. Within 2 months of leaving the Markham VAR, Ted and Jason were designing and implementing some of the largest corporate networks in the Caribbean; working closely with Bermuda’s government and various large investment firms. At home, their reputation as networking and server-based computing experts continued to grow; becoming Canada’s first IT firm to receive formal consulting training and recognition from application virtualization pioneer Citrix Systems. As their client base continued to grow—based on referrals alone—Ted and Jason began expanding the IT Weapons team. By the end of their first year, the team had grown to 5 people.
Since that first year, the IT Weapons team has continued to grow in accordance with our founders’ vision. We remain committed to the company’s core values as a simple formula for success and earning long-term client loyalty:
