Ornge is the sole provider of aeromedical and critical care interfacility land transport for the province of Ontario. In addition to providing transport medicine in the field, the Ornge Communications Centre (OCC) also determines the most appropriate level of paramedic and mode of transportation (fixed, rotor, land) . The OCC is essential in coordinating the movement and activities of transport medicine in the province of Ontario. Ornge is the glue that holds Ontario’s health care system together – linking centres of excellence with communities throughout the province. A failure in the OCC would have an immediate and direct impact on Ornge’s ability to provide these important services.

In addition to providing support services for specific applications such as Exchange and Citrix, ITW also hosts Ornge’s alternate workspace for the OCC and provides full redundancy capability to the primary site.
The alternate workspace has been used a number of times as part of planned activities and it has been ready quickly and functioned smoothly throughout its activation. This flexibility has allowed Ornge the capacity to complete a number of projects impacting the OCC with no interruption in service to the patients of Ontario. While we have not yet had to use the facility in an unplanned event, we are confident that it will function as designed.

"FirstOnSite Restoration L.P. was less than a year old when I joined the team, and at that time we were faced with the big challenge of integrating the main office and six other entities within a short six month time span. We needed to roll out a central ERP and job costing system as well as incorporating all the email domains under one system. I was concerned about successfully delivering a complete infrastructure with a looming due date, and ensuring that we have the ability to scale and grow for the future expansion of the company. We turned to IT Weapons for their extensive knowledge in various technologies, namely Citrix and VMware. We needed to integrate more than 450 users across Canada utilizing multiple platforms without replacing all the equipment in less than 3 months.
The answer was simple. Build a Citrix environment capable of delivering this new system without having to replace all the field equipment. Also, with VMware, we were able to virtualize more than 70% of our server needs in little to no time. We now have the ability to provide key applications to any future location quickly and easily. "It was obvious that we had outgrown our Nortel telephone system and needed to expand to meet the demand of our 18 locations across Canada. "We’ve been doing business with IT Weapons since their company was founded nine years ago. We are proud to be one of their longest standing customers. For years we’ve enjoyed watching their company grow, their expertise increase, and their services get better. IT Weapons designed and implemented a virtual server environment for DPI which has dramatically reduced the TCO for our IT. IT Weapons has also been managing the Citrix XenApp computing infrastructure of DPI in their Data Centre for some time. And this is no small task, since we operate in eight locations in five provinces across Canada with over 200 users. With IT Weapons managing our system, we can operate safely with only 3 IT staff. Before we moved to XenApp, one of our biggest IT challenges was the slow and costly rollout time for endpoint hardware and software upgrades. With so many staff distributed across the country, it was becoming almost impossible. Once we implemented the Citrix system we could further streamline our computing infrastructure by introducing thin client hardware and eliminating 70% of all our traditional desktops. The new hardware dramatically reduced endpoint management needs and virtually eliminated any security issues or risk of data loss. Not to mention the reduced operating costs. Thanks to IT Weapons our company can continue to grow smoothly without worrying about new costly IT investments at every turn. Adding new sites and new users to our computing network is basically effortless. From a systems management perspective, centralizing the desktop delivery infrastructure with the combination of Citrix and thin client hardware has relieved tremendous stress and opened up new opportunities for our IT team. Since we outsourced our system management to IT Weapons’ expert helpdesk, my team is now free to focus on new business systems and initiatives to grow the business, save us money, and Increase efficiency. And IT Weapons is always there to provide objective consulting advice and great technical expertise. For example, DPI wanted to migrate away from our old accounting software (TRIAD) to the more feature-rich Microsoft Dynamics GP. Without a server-based Citrix application delivery system in place, that software rollout would have taken months, and tens of thousands of dollars would have been spent in labour costs, hardware maintenance, etc... Not to mention the ongoing costs and cumbersome inefficiency of deploying upgrades, and customizations to the various users at their sites.
